INDUSTRIAL GASES

oxygen

Oxygen: is a colorless, tasteless, nonmetallic element constitute 21 percent of the atmosphere. It combines with most elements, is essential for plant and animal. It is nonflammable, but supports for nearly all combustion.

Oxygen is supplied both as liquid and as compressed gas.  It is used extensively with in the medical sector, high altitude flying, deep sea diving and in outer space. Industries use oxygen together with acetylene, propane, hydrogen and other fuel gases for welding and cutting. Furthermore, oxygen is used in production of other gases.

Helium

Helium: Helium is a highly inert gas found in nature in limited quantities. It is colorless, odorless, non-flammable & non-toxic. Helium is used for welding and as a lifting gas in balloons. Also it is used in the production of some metals such as titanium and zirconium. When mixed with oxygen it can be used for diving and medical purposes.

Acetylene

Acetylene:  is a highly flammable & colourless gas which contains of carbon and hydrogen. This gas produces a very hot flame (over 300°C or 540°F) when combined with oxygen so it is used in welding, cutting, heat treating and the manufacture of chemicals. Acetylene can be liquefied and solidified with relative ease.

Nitrogen

Nitrogen: constitutes 78% of the atmosphere by volume. It is a colorless, odorless, non-flammable gas which is supplied both as liquid and as compressed gas.

Nitrogen as gas is used for heat treatment, blanketing, purging of air-conditioners, refrigerators, food processing and packing, 

Liquid nitrogen is used for freezing and Health Care Applications.

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon Dioxide: is a compound containing carbon and oxygen. It is formed by the burning of hydrocarbon with air. CO2 is a slightly toxic, odorless, colorless gas with a slightly pungent, acid taste. Carbon dioxide is a small but important constituent of air.

Carbon dioxide in its solid form (dry ice) is used as a refrigerant when transporting dairy products, meat products, frozen foods and other foods. It is also used as a coolant in industrial processes such as grinding, rubber tumbling and cold treating materials.

As a gas, carbon dioxide is used to carbonate soft drinks, pH control in water treatment, in chemical processing, as a food preservative, in chemical and food processing. Furthermore, it is also used when welding.

In liquid form, carbon dioxide can be used as a refrigerant when freezing food products.

Argon/carbon dioxide

Argon/carbon dioxide blends are used for all kinds of structural steel, farm implements and machinery. Lower levels of CO2 can be used for pulsed arc or spray arc welding, while higher levels > 20% are used for short arc welding and the shielding of some flux-cored wires.

Argon

Argon: is a non-flammable and is a highly inert gas which finds applications in industries requiring low reactivity with good stability such as: Lighting Industry, filling fluorescent lamps and electronic tubes. It is also used for arc welding and cutting, as well as in the production of titanium, zirconium and other metals. It is colourless, odourless, tasteless and non-toxic gas. Argon is available in both liquid and as compressed gas.
